Double divorced at 40, Meredith is determined to become a lesbian.
If gay conversion therapy was really that successful, then surely it would work in reverse — right? With housing prices through the roof and no way of servicing a mortgage solo, Meredith decides that the only logical solution to getting back into the property market is a same-sex relationship. The only problem? She’s straight. Like, really really straight.
When Meredith is refused reverse gay conversion therapy by Yulia — a Ukrainian ex-spy who runs an underground program boasting a 99% success rate — manipulative Meredith locks Yulia in an ultimatum that threatens to bring her whole operation to its knees. Yulia reluctantly agrees, and what transpires is a Cold War-era style exorcism of heterosexuality and a ridiculous attempt at reprogramming Meredith to emerge as a lesbian.
UNCONVERTED is another absurdist comedy Yarner production that, like those before it, punches you right in the feels when you least expect it. UNCONVERTED is relevant right now as it simultaneously challenges the recurring global discussion that sexuality is a choice, exposes gay conversion therapy as harmful and a complete load of shit, while also highlighting the impossible economic challenges single women face — and how, let’s be fair, human desperation can lead us to do some really dumb stuff. This absurdist web series appeals to women over 40 and the LGBTQIA+ community, who connect with the hearts of both Meredith and Yulia, but also to anyone who loves absurdist social commentary.
UNCONVERTED is the vehicle to raise awareness, spread hope, and remind us all — that perhaps the most radical act of self-improvement there is, is realising that you were never broken in the first place.
